Summer Seminar

The summer seminar is designed to help students comprehend the research process, develop an understanding of faculty life (i.e., teaching, research, service), prepare for the Graduate Record Exam and engage in workshops that supports entry into graduate school. The seminar is a six-week course held during the second summer session.

The summer seminar is divided into three sections: Research Methodology and Academic Literacy, Graduate Record Exam Instructions and workshops.

Section I: Research Methodology and Academic Literacy

The research methodology course meets twice per week and functions as a seminar, "a group of advanced students studying a subject under a professor, each [developing a research topic and design,] and exchanging information through informal lectures, reports and discussions" (Websters Third New International Dictionary, 1976).

Section II: Graduate Record Exam (GRE)

Students typically meet twice per week to focus on the GRE. Test material including quizzes and exams are administered. A pre and post-test is also provided.

Section III: Luncheon Series Workshops

Workshops are provided to support the Research Methodology/Academic Literacy and Graduate Record Exam section as well as entry into graduate school.
